“Darkness comes. In the middle of it, the future looks blank. The temptation to quit is huge. Don’t. You are in good company. You are in the pit with King David. He waited. ‘I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction’ (Ps. 40:1–2). God will do that for you. You will argue with yourself that there is no way forward. But with God, nothing is impossible. He has more ropes and ladders and tunnels out of pits than you can conceive. Wait. Pray without ceasing. Hope.”—John Piper (via pureblyss)
“You must ask for God’s help. Even when you have done so, it may seem to you for a long time that no help, or less help than you need, is being given. Never mind. After each failure, ask forgiveness, pick yourself up, and try again. Very often what God first helps us towards is not the virtue itself but just this power of always trying again.”—C.S. Lewis (via jspark3000)
God didn’t send His Son to die for a bunch of sinners and hypocrites, He sent His Son to die for a bunch of sinners and hypocrites who have the potential to become sons of God, because that’s who He really saw us as. That was the joy set before Him, the bigger picture of the cross. Faith in Christ changes the heart and empowers the life and we live by our faith.
“Now repentance is no fun at all. It is something much harder than merely eating humble pie. It means unlearning all the self-conceit and self-will that we have been training ourselves into for thousands of years. It means killing part of yourself, undergoing a kind of death. In fact, it needs a good man to repent.”—C.S. Lewis (via zacheway)
“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I bet they’d live a lot differently. When you look into infinity, you realize there are more important things than what people do all day.”—Calvin and Hobbes (via modernhepburn)
